Watsonville Water Recycling Project

Project Background
The new 16,000 sq. foot facility located in Watsonville, CA will be the future home of a 4,000 sq. foot Water Control Laboratory, command station, office space and educational area.

Project Requirements
This project has a large emphasis placed on energy efficiency and environmental concerns. The goal for the new building is to receive a LEED Platinum certification. To this end, the air throughout the buildings is primarily for ventilation, and conditioning is to be achieved through alternate means. In addition, reclaimed water will be utilized as condenser water.

What ACCO Delivered
ACCO is performing this project on a design-build basis, collaborating closely with the design team and owner to bring to fruition their initial concepts and unique design.
ACCO sized the mechanical systems and came up with the full construction drawings as well as the detailing of the mechanical room, which provided a challenge given the very minimal space available in the room. In addition, 14,000 sq. feet of dual-temp radiant piping is being installed.
ACCO is helping the owner to achieve their goal of LEED Platinum certification by utilizing creative conditioning solutions to reduce energy consumption. These solutions include low wall displacement ventilation which reduces air delivery and fan power consumption, as well as operable windows which allow for an expanded individual comfort range in office spaces while conserving energy.
Preliminary Energy models demonstrates a 74% energy savings in comparison to ASHRAE Standard 90.1-1999.
