Bunker Hill Central Plant

ACCO was contracted by Sempra Energy to act as the General Contractor for the replacement of old inefficient chillers at the Bunker Hill Central Plant in downtown Los Angeles. This central plant serves nine buildings in the Bunker Hill section of Los Angeles, including seven condominium buildings and two high-rise buildings. The project was part of the Los Angeles DWP Energy Efficiency Program.

The work included installing two Trane dual compressor 2,500 ton chillers. The chillers were shipped in pieces to the jobsite to be assembled by ACCO.

The entire job was done on a fast track basis and completed within a 60 day schedule. All piping, including 24" condenser piping and 16" chilled water piping was roughed in by acco crews in a three week period. A permanent 5-ton bridge crane was installed in the chiller room by ACCO to aid in the installation of the chiller, piping, and for future service of the equipment.
