form a conservatory breadth of programs and level of teaching. The only such
school accredited in California by the National Association of Schools of Music,
the school often hosts international artists for performances and master
classes.
The new Colburn School of Performing Arts was designed by Hardy Holzman
Pfeifer Associates. This 52,000 square foot building serves as a showcase and
studio for music, drama, and dance.
Incorporating a 420 seat theater, music practice rooms, dance studios, master class rooms, a
recording studio, and the restored Heifetz Studio, presented extreme acoustical challenges to
the project team.
The seven custom air handlers use chilled water purchased from a district central plant. ACCO led
the coordination effort during the shop drawing phase. This upfront work using 3-D CAD modeling
enabled the project team to resolve interferences on paper prior to construction.
