Napa Data Center

Location: Napa, CA

Date: July 2013

The nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, which leads the way by managing the majority of its medical records electronically, took advantage of a previously established, yet unused, data center in Napa to accommodate its need for extensive electronic file storage.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Although there was primary cooling capacity available, how it was distributed and controlled did not satisfy the client’s requirements. The chilled water capacity also needed expansion, necessitating additional equipment and infrastructure. In addition, it was a fast-track project with a timeline of only 10 months to complete.

WHAT ACCO DELIVERED

A clever water distribution system was envisioned by Syska Hennessy Group, but the challenge was how to incorporate the vast amount of piping into an existing footprint with uncertain as-built conditions, all within 10 months. To meet the aggressive schedule, a collaborative 3-D model was used to coordinate structural elements and HVAC equipment. 3-D BIM modeling is a significant aspect of an IPD project approach.

The customer also worked closely with ACCO to ensure the controls system aided in their managerial operation procedures.

ACCO is now also building the third phase of this project with Taylor Engineering as engineer of record. The fourth phase is in design.
