  • Variable refrigerant flow (VRF)
  • Dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS)
  • Energy recovery enthalpy wheel system
  • Dehumidification
  • Storm water bio-retention ponds

PROJECT SUMMARY

The NHL practice rink design incorporates a dehumidification/energy recovery enthalpy wheel system, along with carefully selected dehumidifying air handling units, to avoid fogging the rinks and to maintain specific NHL ice rink space temperature and humidity requirements. The design of the two community practice rinks does not include chilled water. However, chilled water connections and chilled water coils were kept for use during non-skating rink events when the ice surface is covered with floor material.

For the administration and support areas, a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system and a dedicated outside air system (DOAS) with a selection of quiet fan coils units combine for energy savings in these areas.

The overall facility design includes an open ceiling concept with ceiling clouds, pendant light fixtures, and multiple ceiling elements that require a high-level of coordination with the building mechanical systems.
