ACCO is pleased to recognize the first graduating class of the SMART Heroes program, which aims to help new veterans transition back to civilian life with a new skill set: sheet metal industry training.
The program includes 200 hours of training over a 7 week period, and provides apprenticeships that help lead to jobs in the sheet metal industry. The inaugural graduates included recent veterans from the Army, Navy and Air Force. The program and ceremony were held at the Dupont, Washington JATC training center, which is next door to the Joint Army and Air Force Base, Fort Lewis/McChord.
We are honored that our own Milt Goodman assisted the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) and SMART National with building this supportive program. ACCO’s Tom Montgomery serves on the JATC board for Western Washington and we are also pleased to recognize his efforts in establishing the SMART Heroes program, including setting its curriculum.
More importantly, we are very happy for the military members that completed the course and we wish them the best in their new journey into the sheet metal industry.
