The Sacramento Kings and the City of Sacramento set out to build a state-of-the-art venue to bring back marquee events and become the cornerstone for the revitalization of the Downtown area. ACCO was brought in as a design/assist partner on the arena for our expertise and experience.
Project Requirements
- 660,000 sq. ft. with 17,500 seats
- 2,700-ton central plant
- 1,000,000 lbs. sheet metal
- 65,000 LF hydronic piping
- 2,500 LF of a premanufactured double wall, insulated grease duct, allowing for “near zero” slope on long horizontal runs in tightly coordinated space
What ACCO Delivered
ACCO was brought in as a design/assist partner on the arena for our expertise and experience. The project was truly a company-wide effort with design engineering services from Glendale, detailing from San Leandro and Sacramento, and management and construction performed by Sacramento.
The Golden 1 Center is being trumpeted as a “first of its kind,” state-of-the-art, sports and entertainment facility. It is the first arena in the United States to implement an underfloor displacement system. In addition to the mechanical features, it has unparalleled mobile connectivity, the largest 4k display in the NBA, and is 100% solar powered.
All arenas have their challenges, and the Golden 1 Center was no different. Minimal laydown area, major design changes during construction, and an aggressive schedule presented obstacles to a successful completion. Despite these challenges, ACCO’s sheet metal, piping and start-up crews were successful at staying ahead of the curve. Overall, we are very proud to have contributed to this iconic project.
