ACCO Engineered Systems completed a design-build retrofit of the mechanical cooling systems, which included four new 125-ton Bitzer rotary screw compressors, ABB Soft Starts, two 6-section cooling coil banks, and new compressor controls based on Automated Logic Corporation (ALC) hardware and software.
Project Requirements
- Remove existing R22 refrigerant based compressors and coils and proprietary control system
- Install new R134a refrigerant based compressor and coils
- Install new ALC controls for compressor sequencing and control
- Sequence work to maintain comfort cooling during construction

This was a design-build permitted project that spanned approximately four months. ACCO Engineered Systems lead the design and construction effort, utilizing key vendors, subcontractors and resources to successfully execute the project. Our expertise in designing and installing large tonnage built-up refrigeration systems provided leadership in all aspects of the project, ensuring the owner of the continued use of their occupied facility and a turn-key solution. Our attention to detail led to a well-conceived and timely executed project.
Owner/occupant use of the 11-story high-rise building during construction was maintained without disruption or inconvenience through careful planning and scheduling of activities.
