BioMarin Pharmaceutical sought a fast-tracked approach to build a Gene Therapy manufacturing facility. NOVO Construction and ACCO teamed up to make this a reality in just 11 months.

PROJECT SUMMARY
This project was a challenge for many reasons, but the primary challenge was the timeline. The project team delivered this manufacturing facility in roughly 11 months. This duration included design, coordination, and construction. Part of what made this even possible was the co-location of the project team. The Owner, General Contractor and subcontractors all worked out of the same building to allow easy coordination among the team members. ACCO’s ability to take on the design-build role for HVAC and Plumbing, design assist for the Process work, and provide a single point of contact was a key part of the success of this project.
HVAC systems included 100% OSA supply and 100% welded SS exhaust to/from the production suites, UV deactivation and Bag In/Bag Out filtration, water cooled chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, and pumps. ACCO also provided CDA, O2, and WFI to the lab areas as well as double-contained underground process waste to lift stations and a new waste treatment system.
